This course examines the role of play in human development and well-being through the lens of outdoor space design. It introduces current trends in inclusive play, adventure play, imaginative environments, and fitness-focused structures, with an emphasis on strategies that support creativity, community connection, and developmental outcomes.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Explain the role of outdoor play in supporting human development, social interaction, and overall health and wellness.
  • Describe key design features of inclusive play spaces and their benefits for diverse populations, including neurodiverse users.
  • Apply universal design principles to the creation of accessible and engaging play environments for individuals of all abilities.
  • Analyze how adventure and imaginative play spaces contribute to creativity, problem-solving skills, and appropriate risk-taking in children.
