Water and moisture intrusion can affect everything from a building’s structural durability to its indoor air quality. Understanding the material options, installation, and testing criteria for high-performing weather-resistant barriers (WRBs) can help specifiers manage present and future moisture concerns.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Discuss the effects of moisture and air intrusion on building durability, thermal efficiency, indoor air quality (IAQ), and the health of building occupants.
  • Analyze how weather- and air-resistant barrier selection and installation affect moisture management and the building envelope.
  • Define testing criteria for high-performing weather-resistant barriers.
  • In terms of performance, evaluate the importance of surfactant resistance, draining bulk water, and proper installation of weather-resistive barriers.
