This course explores some of the tools at the core of sustainable facility management and how they can enhance indoor environmental quality, reduce environmental impact, and improve occupant well-being. It reviews how operational strategies can support organizational performance and talent attraction and retention in a changing workplace landscape. The course examines emerging trends, new tools and practices, and shifts in certification frameworks such as the LEED® v5 Operations and Maintenance and Building Design and Construction rating systems and the WELL Building Standard™ version 2 that reflect the growing demand for measurable performance and decarbonization efforts.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Discuss how waste diversion, sustainable cleaning, and maintenance enhance occupant health, environmental performance, and long-term building value, aligning with LEED v5 and WELL v2 goals.
  • Describe how evolving green building programs like LEED v5 and WELL v2 emphasize measurable performance outcomes across ongoing operations and reflect a shift toward operations and facilities management in workplace sustainability and wellness.
  • Identify effective waste management strategies, sustainable product selection, and cleaning practices that reduce environmental impacts and contribute towards meeting LEED v5 and WELL v2 requirements.
  • Assess how sustainable maintenance and operational strategies contribute to indoor environmental quality, employee satisfaction, regulatory compliance, and talent attraction and retention in today’s evolving workplace.

Approximately 1 hour. Delivered online, at your own pace.
