Thermoplastic Roofing – Materials and Systems for Today’s Buildings

Roofing technologies have come a long way from labor-intensive systems that achieved water tightness through redundancy. Today’s single-ply thermoplastic membrane systems are lightweight, consistently manufactured, and efficient to install. This course focuses on thermoplastic single-plies, particularly those that are PVC based, and explores their benefits and limitations. It also identifies the important factors to consider when selecting a roof system, including fastening techniques, warranties, safety, and sustainability.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Summarize the evolution of single-ply roofing that has culminated with technological changes that bring greater control to the jobsite and reliable roof performance to the specifier and building owner.
  • Compare and contrast the installation and performance characteristics of TPO and PVC roofing membranes to evaluate the benefits and limitations of each, especially in terms of long-term performance, safety and fire and chemical resistance.
  • Explain the advantages of prefabricated or custom-sized deck sheets, flashings, and accessories and their role in minimizing jobsite labor, waste, and error to produce leakproof roof systems that perform as building owners expect.
  • Discuss the key criteria when selecting a roof system in terms of membrane type, single-source systems, fastening techniques, flashing methods, warranties, manufacturer services, cool roof performance and weather resistance.

Approximately 1 hour. Delivered via webinar or face-to-face presentation. Available sessions shown below.
