Custom Wine Cellars: Plan, Design, Build

In recent years, the inclusion of wine cellars has become a hallmark of luxury and upscale housing, extending beyond individual homes to multifamily residences, bars, private clubs, and restaurants. This course is a practical guide for architects, designers, general contractors, and engineers on building attractive, efficient, and highly functioning wine cellars that successfully integrate technical requirements with design intent.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Determine the optimal size and placement of a wine cellar during the preliminary design phase, considering space utilization and proximity to mechanical systems.
  • Design a space to meet a client’s preferences and collection size, focusing on incorporating temperature control, adaptable storage solutions, aesthetic appeal, and practicality.
  • Select an energy-efficient, appropriately sized refrigeration system using the system checklist.
  • Detail, specify, and construct a wine cellar to prevent potential moisture problems and mold and ensure energy efficiency.
