Automated Shading as a Building System for Dynamic Daylight Management

This course examines automated shading as a core element of dynamic daylight management and explores its role within integrated building systems. Participants will learn how automated shading supports occupant comfort and wellbeing, contributes to building optimization, and aligns with broader sustainable design goals. The course highlights design strategies, coordination considerations, and performance outcomes that position automated shading as a critical component of high performing buildings.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Explain how automated shaded functions as a building system, not just as a decorative window treatment.
  • Understand how automated shading coordinates with lighting and control systems to support building optimization.
  • Recognize the performance outcomes of automated shading from occupant comfort and building optimization, to LEED, WELL and ESG contributions.
  • Apply design and coordination concepts to support successful implementation of automated shading within building systems.
