A Hands-Off Approach: Designing Public Restrooms with Preventative Measures in Mind
Recent events have emphasized the importance of proper hygiene, especially in public restrooms. Presented here is a discussion on which public restroom surfaces commonly promote the spread of germs and how touch less sink faucets can be used to reduce the proliferation of harmful bacteria. Design professionals will learn about water treatment and filtration options and water system management strategies, and how to apply preventative measures to create hygienic public restrooms that support public safety.
Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
Identify which public restroom surfaces commonly promote the spread of germs and present the risk of infection to all occupants.
Explain the importance of handwashing and how touchless sink faucets facilitate hygienic handwashing practices and can be used to reduce the occurrence of harmful bacteria on faucet handles, mitigating risk to human health.
Discuss the dangers associated with stagnant water as a breeding ground for harmful bacteria and the effective water management strategies that can decrease the risk of waterborne-related illnesses.
Apply preventative measures when designing or renovating public restrooms with infection control in mind.
