Rain is one of the most important things to control in wall construction for both a building’s structural integrity and the occupants’ health. In today’s one-hour course we’ll discuss basic building science as it applies to moisture management and sustainable rain screen systems You’ll also get some insights and understanding of what to consider with respect to materials and design in creating an effective rain screen wall assembly

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

• Identify potential moisture management issues that can cause harm to both a building’s aesthetic and structural integrity as well as occupants’ health and safety
• List four basic components of rainscreen wall systems that help minimize rainwater passage into the wall and effectively dissipates any water remaining back to the exterior
• Compare and contrast the suitability of various cladding materials to serve in rainscreen systems, with focus on their durability, sustainability, and safety
• Evaluate proper exterior wall design as a rain screen system for effective moisture management
