Permeable Grid Paving for Sustainable Site Development & Stormwater Detention

Examine permeable paving detention as an alternative to traditional storm water management approaches including open detention ponds and underground pipe. Impervious pavement is the main source of storm water runoff and this course discusses an alternative method with gravel and grass grid pavers. These systems have sustainable and environmental benefits; stormwater management (Low Impact Development) advantages, and can significantly reduce site development costs.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Analyze onsite and offsite storm water management (SWM) requirements, conditions, and contexts to identify the most suitable onsite SWM strategy that meets those conditions
  • Identify the most suitable permeable paving alternative(s) to support that strategy
  • Quantify the fiscal, physical, and environmental benefits of a permeable plastic paver grid system
  • Design, detail, and specify an effective permeable plastic paving SWM system
