Beyond Fire Sprinklers: Rethinking Home Fire Protection with Water Mist
Fire safety and suppression are essential design features for building projects. This course explores how innovative water mist fire suppression systems can enhance occupant safety in homes while preserving aesthetics and minimizing water damage. Key design principles of electronically controlled water mist systems are examined, and their installation and maintenance are described. Also discussed is guidance for dealing with code officials when using these systems as an alternative to traditional fire sprinklers.
Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
Compare water mist suppression systems to traditional sprinklers and explain how they use up to 90% less water and are ideal for installation in drought areas.
Identify key design principles, coverage planning, and code considerations for single-family home water mist systems to ensure a reliable, safe, and water-efficient fire suppression system.
Recall proper installation and explain how water mist systems use clean water and can tap directly into the municipal water supply, reducing the demand on the water infrastructure and eliminating hazardous runoff.
Discuss operation, inspection, and maintenance practices that provide a more sustainable option by eliminating the hazardous discharge that occurs with traditional sprinkler systems.
